We had great support both on and off the water for the annual Ross Warland Memorial Challenge, with 100 boats and 170 paddlers taking on the 20 miles in K1 or K2 and the various relay options.

Congratulations to everyone who took part – whether chasing records, or chasing personal challenges of tackling the long distance.  All our juniors pushed themselves hard over either 10 or 20 miles, and did it well. There were some likely 2019 DW crews looking good out there too – the jelly baby as race-food season has officially started!

For the faster paddlers, the senior and junior K1 records were broken.  The junior boys were very successful.  Philip from RLSCC set a new junior K1 record, whilst Jarvis (Pangbourne) and Alex (Reading) set the new K2 one. The senior crew of international paddlers, Tom Lusty (Solihull) and Magnus Gregory (Longridge) couldn’t quite beat the current K2 record (held by Tom with a different partner).

There were well deserved bacon butties and cake for everyone afterwards and, of course, BDCC hats for the class winners.
