Basingstoke Canoe Club hosted the first Southern Region Hasler for 2017, and the Banbury team managed a 3rd place overall, keeping their qualification for the Finals well in sight.
The juniors led the way again. Although it’s apparently over a year since Toby G last raced, it’s clearly like riding a bicycle, as he came straight back with a win in Div 7 K1 and promotion to Div 6. A new K2 pairing of Lance and Noah were 2nd in Div K2, whilst Rosa, still an U12, came 3rd in Div 9 and promoted to Div 8, so no more Lightning races for her!
However, proving it’s never too late to start paddling and racing, Debbie and Stephen came 2nd in Div 9 K2, and got a valuable full 20 points for the club, whilst John C promoted to Div 8. Race Rep, Andy, opted out of being shown up by his daughter, Annelies, as she powered through for a great 4th in Div 4. Instead, Andy persuaded Siobhan to race Div 5 K2 at the very last minute, and they came 3rd – despite both realising fairly early on that the boat was quite a snug fit!
In the Lightning races, Izzy continued her winning run in U12s, with Will B 3rd in U10s, and Will L 5th in U12 Boys, then 4th in the K2 with Izzy.
