The race season has started – and how! In the last few weeks we’ve had the first National Sprint Regatta of the year, with some great results for Will McC in K2 and K4. The Hasler races have begun again, with lots of podiums and promotions for Banbury paddlers at the Leamington race. The long distance races have culminated this weekend in the big one – the Devizes to Westminster race – 125 miles and 77 locks to portage around. We have 3 K1 paddlers tackling the four-day race, and one K2 crew going for the straight-through option. All are dependent on their support crews throughout the weekend to keep them well fed, watered and motivated.
We’ve also had a day at the Nene Whitewater Centre, with our juniors dominating the results, and this weekend our more established wildwater paddlers are racing for selection to the GB teams for the year.
We even managed to squeeze in an Open Day last weekend, a few paddlers at the Marathon Racing Committee Junior Development Squad camp the weekend before – and our beginner courses start next weekend.
