Banbury paddlers, Angela Hannah and Iain Weir raced at the European Sprint Championships at Plovdiv, Bulgaria at the weekend. Iain and Jonny Jones (Fladbury CC) raced a great heat, coming 4th. Sadly they weren’t quite quick enough to progress from the semi-final to the final, but will have taken away plenty to work on for the World’s. Angela, racing with Hannah Brown (Wiltshire Youth CC) had a good heat and semi for the 500 K2 but again, not quite making the final. However, over the shorter distance of 200m, they did get all the way through the stage and only missed out on a podium place by 0.1 of second, and were only 0.69 behind the gold medallists. They, like Iain and Jonny, will be going into next month’s World Championships in the Czech Republic with renewed confidence after these races.
