With the faster U18s from the club having been away on training camps, it was down to some of our more junior crews to take on the challenge of Waterside A last weekend.  Tackling the longest paddle they have done so far – with 13.5 miles and 21 portages to contend with – all three K2s did brilliantly.  Despite competing against paddlers of up to 19 years old, Jessie (13) and Grace (15) led the way in the K2s, finishing 5th in the Junior Ladies in a time of 2hrs 34 mins.  Harry (14) and Noah (12!) were not far behind in 2 hrs 42 mins, and Michael (14) and Toby (15) finished well in 2 hrs 53.  George (15) had a great race in the singles (K1) class, coming 12th in 2 hrs 10, but it wasn’t just the juniors racing, and Ali Duncan and Lorna Ritchie took advantage of a last-minute crew change, to come 9th in the mixed class in 2hrs 19, whilst Mark Latchem battled a damaged boat and the wrong paddles to finish in a credible 2.33.
