This year the May regatta was also the National Masters Championships – for paddlers over the ripe old age of 34!

Robin Avery led the way over the weekend, taking Gold in the O64 K1 200, 500 and 1000, then silver with Jerry Haycock in the @O54 K2 200, 500 and 1000. Making it a full set, Helen Harper and Siobhan Urquhart took the bronze medals in the WK2 O34 in all three distances.

In the other senior categories, Rob Jefferies won Mens C 500 and 1000 very convincingly (we’re expecting a promotion there), Amy Turner was in the winning Women’s A K4 500 whilst Iain Weir made the C1 1000 a time trial, winning by a considerable distance.

In the junior classes, Joe Petersen won Boys A K2 1000 and the K2 5km race, and was 2nd in the Boys A K1 1000 and K4 1000. Max and Arthur (clearly inspired by their mothers (!)) took 3rd in the Boys A 500 K2, Luke and George were 3rd in Boys C 500 K2, and Jessie 3rd in Girls D K2 and K4 500.

In addition there were lots of finalists over the weekend, and good to see some new faces giving sprinting a go.  Next month it’s the Inter-Clubs Regatta, which clashes badly with school exams sadly, but hopefully we’ll still see some strong club results.
