Banbury entered a big team at the National Marathon Championships at the weekend.  With entries in two-thirds of the race categories over the weekend, BDCC were hopeful of a good team result, which was achieved with an overall 5th place – out of 61 teams.  There were some good K1 results, but sadly no National Champions this year.  Dan G (O34 men) and Robin A (064 men) both took silver medals, whilst Jessie U (U14 girls) and Siobhan U (O39 women) took bronze.

On Sunday the K2s took to the water.  Izzy B with Mollie B from Wiltshire Youth were crowned U12 Girls National Champions. Rosa D and Josh P were silver medallists in boys/mixed U12 K2, and Jessie U got the double with bronze in U14 girls K2 with Lucy W from Norwich CC.   Sadly none of the senior crews could make it onto the podium, but there were some valiant efforts out on the water.  Most of the team survived the hundreds of boats out on the water and paddled at least up to their divisional ranking, if not higher, and many tackled far greater distances than they usually race over, gaining valuable points towards the club total.

Huge well done to the whole team – and to Pangbourne CC for organising such a successful event.
